ASPASIA OF MILETUS

Aspasia was born in Miletus in Asia Minor, in 470BCE was an important figure in Classical Athens. While not to much information is given to us on how she immigrated to Athens, she was the renowned partner of Pericles, a local statesman, and mother of his son Pericles the Younger. Plutarch recounts that her home in Athens was an intellectual center, where prominent writers and thinkers regularly gathered leading into her influencing many of the important philosophers,and statesmen of her time.She is said to have established a girls’ school, surpassing the limitations imposed on women.
